Abuna

Refers to the Patriarch of the Assyrian Church or the Metropolitan of the Ethiopian Church.

E.g. Paulus, Abuna and Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

 

Adontehene

Ghanaian chiefly title / tribal rank. One who goes in front of the army.

 

Ajiya

Hausa title meaning “treasurer”. Has been used by the Adamawa Emirate, Nigeria.

 

Akwamuhene

Akan title meaning “king of the Akwamu”.

E.g. Akwamuhene, Odeneho Nana Kwarfo Akoto III.

 

Akyeamehene

A title used by the Akan in the Akuambo and Denkyira empires for the Head Linguist and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

 

Ampagnito-bé

Malagasy royal title meaning “father of the people” or “great, sacred royal ancestor”.

 

Nana

Ghanaian title and honorific, applied to kings, chiefs, nobles and the elderly.

E.g. Nana Joseph Appiah.
